Mikel Arteta sets Pablo Mari and Mykola Matviyenko transfer stance after Shkodran Mustafi injury

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has said that the Gunners are chasing "one or two" new players before the end of the transfer window.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of players throughout the month, with Pablo Mari, Mykola Matviyenko and Thomas Lemar among the players to be mentioned with a possible move to the Emirates Stadium before deadline day.

Arteta will be targeting the defensive side of his team especially, after Shkodran Mustafi left the pitch on a stretcher in the second half of the 2-1 FA Cup victory over Bournemouth on Monday evening.

Should he not be available for the foreseeable future, it leaves Arteta with just three fit centre backs in David Luiz, Sokratis and Rob Holding.

January is a notoriously difficult window to do business in, but speaking to BT Sport after the FA Cup clash against the Cherries, the Arsenal boss has said that they are looking to do some late deals.

"We are in the market and the club is trying to facilitate one or two bodies if we can with the resources that we have in this window," he said.

Pablo Mari looks to be the most likely target to join, although there did seem to be some reports of a deal collapsing after the player's return to Brazil on Monday.

But from Arteta's comments, there could be more than one addition before the deadline.

Arsenal have until Friday at 11pm to complete deals
