Mikel Arteta sets Nicolas Pepe a challenge ahead of Arsenal's clash with Aston Villa

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has called on winger Nicolas Pepe to improve his consistency despite a goal scoring performance in Thursday's Europa League victory over Molde.

The Gunners ran out 4-1 winners on the night with Pepe scoring Arsenal 's third and creating the fourth, releasing Joe Willock who finished coolly to secure the result and extend the club's lead at the top of Group B.

Speaking during his post-match press conference, Arteta challenged the Ivorian to produce consistently good performances, something he has struggled to do since his £72 million move from Lille.

"Consistency throughout the game, throughout 90 minutes in every ball, in every action and every time he is on the ball in the final third to make a difference and do it more and more and more," Arteta said.

"The final product has to be better, not just from him, if we want to become a top, top team and score many more goals, it’s something we have to put higher demands on at the moment.

"Today he scored a really good goal, another assist and he can do more.

"But I think he is on the right path."

Pepe has made 53 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal since joining at the start of last season, accumulating 23 goal contributions for the club.

His last Premier League goal came during last month's victory against strugglers Sheffield United, as he bursted into the box and dispatched the ball into the bottom corner with ease.

The Gunners return to domestic action on Sunday with Aston Villa set to make the trip to North London.
