Mikel Arteta set for January transfer windfall as Arsenal earnings for World Cup players revealed

Arsenal head into the World Cup break in inspired form, topping the Premier League table with 37 points from a possible 42 on offer so far. It leaves them five points clear of Manchester City in second. However, the sudden break in schedule could halt all momentum available to the squad.

"When a team is in that moment, you want to carry on playing, of course, but that's not possible," Mikel Arteta told reporters when asked about the break. "We have to use that time as best as possible.

"For those not participating in the World Cup, they will have some time off, which they fully deserve, and the rest can just fulfil a dream that every kid has to have the chance to represent their team in a national cup. It doesn't get better than that."

While a number of players are set to feature for their nations in the tournament, Arsenal are also set to benefit from having their squad members take part in it. As an incentive for clubs to release their players for international duty and, in particular, the World Cup, FIFA pay roughly £8,500 per player, per day they are away.

With six days of training and a group stage that lasts 13 days, that guarantees 19 days worth of money per player - working out at £161,500. For the Gunners, they have ten players in action for the competition, meaning they are guaranteed £1,615,000 at the very minimum.

However, as the tournament progresses, that could begin to accumulate further as nations get deeper into the tournament and spend more days away. That amount could end up being the difference between being able to make a signing in January, be it a small signing that helps them get over the line or put towards a bigger name that can help them progress in the title race.

It remains to be seen if that will be the case, but the further in the tournament the players get, the more money Arsenal will be set to receive.
