Mikel Arteta says he is "feeling better already" after his diagnosis with coronavirus on Thursday night.
The Arsenal head coach was the first football figure in the English game to be diagnosed with COVID-19. He was tested after feeling ill with the result coming through at 9pm on Thursday night.
A little over 12 hours later the Premier League, EFL and FA announced the suspension of football across England until April 3, a decision that Arteta welcomed in a post on social media.
"Thanks for your words and support," he wrote. "Feeling better already.
"We're all facing a huge & unprecedented challenge. Everyone's health is all that matters right now.
"Protect each other by following the guidelines & we'll come through this together. Well done PL for making the right decisions."
Arteta's illness prompted Arsenal to place the entirety of their first-team squad and coaching staff in isolation along with numerous individuals from across the club. football.london understands the full number to be in excess of 100.
The 37-year-old was frustrated to be taken away from his work at a potentially pivotal point of Arsenal's season though that has since changed after the decision to postpone football for several weeks.
Arsenal will test any individuals who have been in contact with Arteta and display symptoms. Meanwhile West Ham have opted to place several members of their first team squad in isolation after playing against the Gunners on Saturday.
Among those is understood to be David Moyes though the West Ham boss' self-isolation is purely of a precautionary nature and he remains in good health.
