Mikel Arteta admits he is in danger of being sacked but insists he and his Arsenal team are fighting to turn things around.
The Gunners lost their eighth Premier League game on Saturday and are now just four points above the relegation zone.
Pressure is growing on Arteta, and when it was put to him that his job may soon become 'untenable', the Spaniard said: "I understand that.
"My energy and my focus is only on getting the team out of that situation, maintaining the spirit of the team.
"The fight that the boys show every time they go on the pitch and the energy the boys show on the pitch. You can see that, you cannot deny that.
"Obviously we are against the results, it's not good enough, it's not good enough for the standards of this football club and this is the challenge. And the fact that we are against."
The Arsenal board are determined to stick with Arteta for the time being.
Top brass believes the Spaniard can turn things around if given the time to do so.
One thing going against Arteta is the toxic atmosphere in the dressing room, which has been caused by factions within the squad.
This has been seen as one of the reasons for the slump, and something Arteta must address as a matter of urgency if he is to keep his job.
Most players currently back Arteta, and the board believe him to be an astute coach.
But the backing of the majority may not last forever if Arteta doesn't act quickly to fix the problems on and off the pitch.
