Mikel Arteta sends hint to Arsenal board backing the move for PSG's Laybin Kurzawa

Mikel Arteta implied that he is fully behind Arsenal's January move for PSG left-back Layvin Kurzawa after the Gunners' 1-1 draw with Sheffield United on Saturday.

19-year-old Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring at the Emirates but United's terrific season continued as John Fleck equalised in the 83rd minute to earn the Blades a point.

The result leaves Arsenal 10th in the Premier League and awaiting an upturn in form since the appointment of Arteta last month.

The Gunners squad is stretched with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang suspended and a number of defenders injured.

Calum Chambers and Sokratis are out, while left-back is a problem area with Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasinac also sidelined.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles, 22, and Bukayo Saka, 18, played at full-back against Sheffield United but Arteta admitted that the youngsters should not have to play out-of-position.

Asked whether Maitland-Niles was to blame for the Blades' late equaliser, Arteta said: "Obviously, when we are analysing the opponents and scenarios that are happening on the pitch, we have to try to correct and help the players as much as possible.

"But we can ask Ainsley a lot of things, but he's not a full-back. Bukayo is not a full-back.

"They're trying to adapt as quickly as possible and they try to help the team as much as possible to do that, but these things are going to happen."

On Arsenal's plans for the rest of the January transfer window, the Spaniard added: "The circumstances are changing daily because we keep having more and more injuries and suspensions.

"We are there in the market, we are looking for options who can help us improve and give us more stability in certain areas but it's still early to say anything."

Kurzawa, capped 13 times for France, has made 14 appearances for Paris-Saint Germain this season.

But the 27-year-old is second choice to Juan Bernat and is widely linked with a move to North London after a five year stint at the French champions.
