Mikel Arteta sends Hector Bellerin a warning as he edges closer to Arsenal exit

Arsenal vice-captain Hector Bellerin may have played his final game for the club as he has been ruled out of this weekend’s encounter against Brighton.

Mikel Arteta’s side conclude their campaign with a home game against the Seagulls on Sunday, and still have faint hopes of qualifying for European competition.

The Gunners are at risk of missing out on Europe for the first time in 25 years, although a late run of league victories may be enough to swoop in on the final day.

There is likely to be somewhat of a squad renovation at the club this summer with long-serving right-back Bellerin one of the names closely linked to an exit over summer.

The Spaniard has two years of his deal at the club remaining but it is likely that he will be moved on to help raise funds which could be reinvested in the first-team squad.

The right-back is said to be keen to find a new challenge and is likely to leave England entirely this summer.

That means that he will have played his final game for Arsenal, as he has been ruled out of the final day clash against Brighton.

Arteta told reporters on Friday: "Hector is not fit [for Sunday] so he will not be playing the last time. Like everybody that has a contract, he remains here."

Bellerin - who has suffered from various injury issues in recent seasons - has made 37 first-team appearances for the club this season, with Cedric Soares and Calum Chambers both options in that position, although it is likely that the club will look to sign a new starting player in that position this summer.

The 26-year-old joined the club’s youth system in 2011 from Barcelona and has clocked up 239 first-team appearances across the past eight seasons.
