Mikel Arteta says Granit Xhaka will receive same consequences as Nicolas Pepe after red card

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka will receive the same consequences as Nicolas Pepe received after the Swiss midfielder was sent off during the Gunners 1-0 defeat to Burnley on Sunday.

Xhaka was dismissed for violent contact as Arsenal were stunned by Premier League bottom half side Burnley on 58 minutes for grabbing the throat of Clarets midfielder Ashley Westwood.

"He's made a mistake, clearly. The way the game was going, the dominance that we had... it was a game that we had to win and with 10 men it makes it much more difficult. You give the opponent a chance and you end up losing."

"In my opinion it's too much willingness to do well, to compete, to do everything you have. We took it the wrong side of it because when you step over the line you know you're going to be punished and we did. As I said, you cannot make those mistakes."

When asked if the consequences for Xhaka's would be the same as they were for Pepe, the Arsenal manager said "absolutely."
