Mikel Arteta's timescale for Arsenal project to 'bang' amid talk of Stan Kroenke decision

Mikel Arteta has already outlined one reason why he should continue as Arsenal manager.

Pressure appears to be building on the Gunners boss following their disappointing Europa League semi-final exit at the hands of Unai Emery's Villarreal on Thursday night.

It means Arsenal are likely to not be in European competition next season, unless they seal a top-seven Premier League finish, and there's talk of Arteta being sacked.

Just like in November 2019 when Unai Emery was sacked after 18 months in charge, any decision to relieve Arteta of his duties would be made by the club's board and owner Stan Kroenke.

However, Kroenke may not want to rush into a decision just yet.

A couple of months ago, Arteta was reflecting on being Arsenal manager for just over a year and projected an upbeat message despite the Premier League campaign not quite going to plan.

In fact, he stressed that his Arsenal project will "bang" once football returns to normal after the coronavirus pandemic that has caused teams to play behind closed doors without fans.

"I could never have imagined when I got tested and had the symptoms, all of the consequences that this virus was going to have on all of us," he said back in March, as per Goal.

"Having my first job, to do that and after being in the job for only three months in normal conditions, to start to have a completely different context and framework to work in has been really challenging but, at the same time, it has made us, as a club, much stronger.

"We have created a really strong group, a really strong bond with our players, with our fans, with our staff and that is going to pay some big tribute in the future I think when everything comes back to normality and we are able to work the way we needed to work with some stability.

"I think this project is going to go "bang" and this is where we are.

"Sometimes it is difficult to see the moment now, but I’m sure where we are going."
