Mikel Arteta’s surprise Mauricio Pochettino assessment ahead of potential Man United arrival

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has previously revealed that he ‘will always be grateful’ for Mauricio Pochettino ahead of the Argentine’s potential arrival at Manchester United.

Pochettino, who is currently overseeing operations at Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s successor.

Although the Red Devils initially announced their desire to appoint an interim boss until the end of the current campaign, Pochettino reportedly has his eyes on the position immediately.

It of course remains to be seen whether that is the case and indeed if Manchester United make their attempt to take the former Spurs boss to Old Trafford.

He already has a huge fan at the Emirates Stadium though, in the form of current Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta.

The two were previously teammates at Paris Saint-Germain during their playing careers and the Spaniard has made no secret of his admiration for Pochettino.

Talking to the Gunners’ official website back in 2014, he said: "He was the captain of the club and for me, he was like a father. He really looked after me. He taught me about the values and the behaviour that a professional footballer must have.

"He told me about the way a footballer must look after himself and he had a lot of respect for his team-mates. I will always be grateful for what he did for him and I respect him for that."

Intriguingly, the two could potentially be reunited sooner rather than later should Pochettino be handed the reins at Old Trafford.

Following a clash with Newcastle this weekend, the Gunners then face a trip to Old Trafford on Thursday December 2.

The two are yet to actually square off in a managerial vein, with Pochettino having left Spurs just a month before Arteta’s arrival at Arsenal as Unai Emery’s successor.
