Mikel Arteta's stance on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's Arsenal future amid shock Barcelona links

Mikel Arteta has said that he's happy with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's commitment to Arsenal.

Once again there has been speculation regarding the Gunners captain and with just a week until transfer deadline day, Barcelona are reportedly eyeing an audacious loan move for the 30-year-old as cover for Luis Suarez.

In addition, the report claims that the La Liga leaders came to the decision to sign Aubameyang in light of Suarez's knee injury, with talks being held between president Josep Maria Bartomeu, CEO Oscar Grau, director of football Eric Abidal, technical secretary Ramon Planes and new head coach Quique Setien.

Then Mundo Deportivo reported that Aubameyang had given his 'okay' to a potential move to the Camp Nou and is 'enthusiastic' about wearing the shirt.

With Alexandre Lacazette struggling for goals, the idea of losing Aubameyang is sure to concern many Gunners supporters.

However, Arteta was in a rather relaxed mood when quizzed about the future of his captain.

"I think a week ago after a game at home we were discussing that he said he was so happy, that he didn't agree with the things being written in the media and has his future here," Arteta said in his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon. "I'm so happy with that.

"That's where I stand at the moment."

The Aubameyang comments which Arteta is referring to came before the Gunners' FA Cup third-round tie against Leeds United at the beginning of the month.

"I would like to react to some of the rumours that are going around about in the media," he told Arsenal's official matchday programme.

"People like making up stories and they should focus on what's happening on the pitch. They talk too much and it does my head in!

"I am the Arsenal captain. I love this club. I am committed to it and desperate to bring it back to the top."

What is likely to please Arteta even more is rumours of Barcelona turning their attentions elsewhere.

Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez is said to have caught the eye of Barcelona officials so much that reports claim they are prepared to table an £100m offer to get a deal done.

A big money deal taking the 22-year-old to the Camp Nou would almost certainly end any Barcelona interest in Aubameyang.
