Mikel Arteta's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang U-turn as striker replacements eyed

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has found himself cast out of Mikel Arteta's first-team squad at Arsenal in recent weeks – and reports suggest the club is already looking at potential replacements.

It comes after Arteta suggested his approach towards his former captain may have changed ahead of the player's departure to the Africa Cup of Nations with Gabon.

It could hint at an even longer spell away from the first XI for Aubameyang as the club have reportedly drawn up a list of four names who could replace him in the upcoming January transfer window.

And elsewhere Gunners legend Sol Campbell has fired a warning on Bukayon Saka's future following reported interest from Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Gunners sent Saka warning

Arsenal could be set to lose yet another star player to a Premier League rival, club icon Sol Campbell has warned.

Campbell has been frustrated after watching the club sell the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie to title rivals in recent seasons and would be loathed to see the same happen with England international Saka.

The Gunners winger has impressed in an Arsenal shirt this season, bouncing back from his Euro 2020 penaly disappointment to register five goals and four assists for Mikel Arteta's side.

And with Liverpool reported to be ready to swoop for the young star, Campbell has told the club exactly what they must do to keep Saka for years to come.

Arteta's Aubameyang U-turn

Mikel Arteta appears to have changed tack in his approach to handling Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following his recent disciplinary breach.

The former Arsenal captain has now found himself exiled for five games since the start of December and has reportedly been training away from the rest of his team-mates.

Arteta was adamant that Aubameyang’s status was being taken on a game-by-game basis, but his latest move may show that is no longer the case.

Mikel Arteta has reportedly drawn up a four-man shortlist of strikers who could replace former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

With the January transfer window now open for business, Arteta could be in the market for a new forward following Aubameyang's exile from first-team duties.

Although impressing since coming back into the starting XI, Alexandre Lacazette is now free to discuss a summer move with foreign clubs with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

And that could accelerate the Gunners' need for a new forward, with four names said to be top of Arteta's shopping list.
