Mikel Arteta's message to Matteo Guendouzi as Arsenal eye potential £25m summer transfer

Mikel Arteta has reportedly told Matteo Guendouzi he has played his last game for Arsenal and will be sold at the next opportunity.

The 21-year-old midfielder fell out with his manager twice in the space of six months following Arteta's appointment and was swiftly cut adrift from first-team affairs.

Arsenal tried to offload Guendouzi in the summer as they initially offered the Frenchman in part-exchange for Thomas Partey, only to eventually loan him out to Hertha Berlin.

Guendouzi has been getting regular minutes in Germany in the hope of returning to Arsenal and staking a claim for a place in the team.

However, according to Football Insider, Arteta has no interest in bringing Guendouzi back into the fold.

Their report adds that the Gunners have even slashed their asking price by £5million to attract potential buyers.

Guendouzi was valued at £30m last summer but Arsenal are now prepared to accept any offers in the region of £25m to get him off their books.

Arsenal could still struggle to draw in that amount for a player who will enter the final year of his contract at the end of this season.

Villarreal were one of the clubs keen on Guendouzi's signature previously but a deal between the two clubs fell through.

Since switching to the Bundesliga Guendouzi has made 18 appearances for Hertha though has started three of the last four on the bench.

"It's like puberty for him, he's kind of a rebel," Hertha boss Pal Dardai told Bild last month. "He has to work and learn like an animal."

Guendouzi has already burnt his bridges with Arteta though, following their bust-up at a Dubai training camp in February last year and his subsequent red card in a petulant altercation with Brighton's Neal Maupay.
