Mikel Arteta's Manchester City protege can shape Folarin Balogun's next Arsenal move

Folarin Balogun has been tipped to be the next star for Arsenal in the attack, as he has been performing exceptionally at under-23 level.

However, his game time has been very limited this season and it is looking likely that the youngster will have to leave the club on a loan deal to gain some valuable first-team minutes.

The Arsenal Way's presenter and writer Tom Canton (TC) spoke with multimedia producer Guy Clarke (GC) on The Arsenal Way’s Tuesday’s match reaction show after the 5-1 victory against Sunderland about which path Balogun could follow to become a success at Arsenal.

GC: “I would like to see him go on a foreign loan, yes it would be difficult in terms of the adaptation and it is only in the second half of the season, so he would have to hit the ground running.

“I think maybe an example of him to follow, who was a player at Manchester City and tutored by Mikel Arteta was Lukas Nmecha.

“He (Nmecha) went on a Championship loan to Preston North End, and I saw him a lot there during his time there, he didn’t score many goals, but you could see he was a player who was developing and learning his trade.

“Since then he also went on loan to Belgium to play for Anderlecht where he played very well, and he is now at Wolfsburg and has been capped by Germany's national side.

“I think with Balogun we need to not expect too much from his first loan, let him go out and learn the game, and adapt to new surroundings. We need to be patient with him.

“You can see he has technical ability but it is about gathering that tactical understanding and the knack of scoring the goals that Eddie Nketiah has developed and see where we go there.”

“I personally believe a foreign loan will be good for him.”
