Mikel Arteta's four Arsenal transfer priorities as five stars 'at risk of axe'

Under-fire Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has decided his four transfer priorities, which will leave five stars at risk of a summer exit from the Premier League side.

The Gunners crashed out of the Europa League semi-finals in the latest disappointment in what has been a poor campaign under Arteta.

Arsenal have been left clinging onto a place in the top-half of the Premier League and are set to miss out on European qualification for the first time in 25 years.

The club’s owners, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, are set to make funds available to Arteta this summer as he seeks to overhaul his squad and return Arsenal to the top of the league.

With a summer of activity expected, the Telegraph report that Arteta has now identified the four areas he wants to prioritise in the window.

Firstly, he views the need to provide competition for Kieran Tierney at left-back as crucial, with the Scot currently the only natural left-back in the Arsenal squad.

While he has impressed under Arteta, his injury issues have seen Cedric Soares and Granit Xhaka forced to play there, to detrimental effect.

Arteta also wants the club to sign a new right-back, with Hector Bellerin expected to depart after 10 years at Arsenal.

One of the Gunners’ biggest weaknesses is the lack of a consistent goalscorer, with Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang failing to fire.

As a result, Arsenal are seeking to add a new forward to their squad in the upcoming window.

With Martin Odegaard and Dani Ceballos set to return to Real Madrid at the end of their loan deals, Arteta also wants the club to target a central midfielder.

It is not just arrivals who are expected at the Emirates, with five players edging closer to leaving North London.

According to the Telegraph, those five are Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah, David Luiz, Calum Chambers and Bellerin.

It has become clear over the course of this season that Arsenal are in need of a squad refresh, with several stars failing to live up to their potential.
