Mikel Arteta explains Arsenal stance on Mesut Ozil ahead of possible transfer

Mikel Arteta says the future of Mesut Ozil will be clarified in the coming days.

The 32-year-old midfielder has been left out of the Gunners' squads so far this season with his contract at the club ending in the summer.

Report in Turkey suggested Fenerbahce were close to signing him on a three-year deal while football.london reported that he was also in talks with MLS side DC United.

"We were not allowed to talk legally before January 1 so now we are just starting to look at the options with the numbers and details," said Sogut.

"I can't talk about the clubs directly because it would be unprofessional but generally, there are six months left on the contract and it is nothing unusual that we will talk to people about different opportunities and try to find the best option for Mesut.

"He might stay at Arsenal until the summer but he might go. Mesut's priority is to stay but you never know in football, things can change very fast.

"For the moment, we are just checking all the options for January and the summer.

"If we want to leave in January, I need to talk to Arsenal. If we sign for the summer, we don't need to. That's the situation.

"In the next seven to ten days, it will be a little clearer as now the transfer window is open, things can move faster."

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Arteta admitted that he doesn't know where Ozil will leave this month or in the summer but confirmed that there will be more clarity on his future within the next few days.

"I don't know what's going to happen," said Arteta.

"Obviously now he's free to negotiate with other clubs. We will discuss internally what's the best situation for him what's the best for the near future, with the player and the agent and try to find the best solution for everybody.

"I'm saying we will decide what's happening in the next few days.

"If something is sorted this month it's because it's good for both parties, because it's good for Mesut and his future and because it's good for the club. If that's the case we'll move forward and if not the player will continue here.

"He's been training with us but he had some days because we decided to give him some days for something personal but he's training with us all the time."
