Mikel Arteta's cryptic response after dropping Mesut Ozil despite him not being injured

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta refused to provide a reason for dropping Mesut Ozil for the Manchester City game.

Arteta simply said he will explain why after the match.

Ozil hasn't been named in Arsenal's starting XI, nor selected for Arteta's nine-man bench, despite carrying no injury.

The German had featured in every game since Arteta was named boss, making 23 appearances this season, and netting once in his side's 4-0 win over Newcastle in February.

His final match for Arsenal was in the Gunners' 1-0 win over West Ham on March 7 before the season was temporarily suspended due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

All week the German World Cup winner has been counting down to the Premier League returning on his official Twitter account.

But the 31-year-old midfielder will play no part in Arsenal's Wednesday night clash with Manchester City.

Ozil struggled for regular game time under Unai Emery at Arsenal, with the Spaniard often dropping the midfielder from his squad.
