Mikel Arteta's brilliant reaction to Mesut Ozil's goal as Arsenal thump Newcastle

Mesut Ozil scored his first goal for Arsenal in ten months in the 4-0 win over Newcastle United and Mikel Arteta provided a brilliant reaction.

It hadn't been a great start to life at Arsenal for Arteta since taking over from interim boss Freddie Ljungberg in December but the winter break seems to have done a world of good.

There have been signs of life at the Gunners in recent weeks but this performance at the Emirates was the biggest example yet that things are on the up.

And that can be said for Ozil on a personal note as well, with the former German international having enjoyed somewhat of a resurgence under Arteta since the Spaniard took over.

Arsenal already planning summer transfers

The playmaker might not have been the star of the show this afternoon but after starting the game, he eventually grabbed his long-awaited first goal in ten months by poking home late on, with Arteta providing the brilliant reaction below.

The Gunners took the lead against Newcastle in the second half after a goalless first period.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted before Nicolas Pepe made it 2-0 ahead of the hour mark.

Ozil bagged the third in the 90th minute before Alexandre Lacazette made it 4-0 in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Next up for Arsenal is a Europa League round of 32 clash with Olympiacos on Thursday night on the road.
