Mikel Arteta's Arsenal rebuild dealt major blow as key staff member rejoins Liverpool

football.london understands Arsenal have been dealt a major blow as the club's Head of Physiotherapy Chris Morgan is set to leave the club to join Premier League champions Liverpool.

Morgan spent a decade at Liverpool before leaving the club in 2016 and joining Arsenal's medical team in 2018 after spells with the FA, LA Galaxy and Crystal Palace.

The move won't come immediately, but when the 2019/20 campaign ends as he will take the Reds' first-team physiotherapist Christopher Rohrbeck's place in the medical team. Rohrbeck is to return to Germany for family reasons, as first reported by The Athletic.

Morgan's move will come as a disappointment for the Gunners after they successful fought off Liverpool's advances for head of sports medicine Dr Gary O'Driscoll in March. As revealed by football.london , his decision was made on personal and professional grounds as he is excited to see what Mikel Arteta can do with the side.

In May, the Gunners made another positive step in regard to their medical team by officially appointing Florence Newton as a first team doctor. As reported by football.london , she had been working with the team since the Gunners' summer tour of the USA last year.

Arsenal are said to have begun their search for Morgan's replacement with Paris Saint-Germain physio Bruno Mazziotti a possible target.

On June 4, it was reported by L'Equipe that the Brazilian is available as he would be leaving the French champions after head of performance Martin Buchheit was sacked.

Mazziotti has also worked with Real Madrid, AC Milan and Shandong Luneng and Iran’s national team in the 2014 World Cup, but The Athletic also reported that he build a "tight bond" with Arsenal's technical director Edu when working for Corinthians and the Brazilian national team.
