Mikel Arteta's Arsenal decision hailed as Nicolas Pepe receives Mesut Ozil warning

Here is your Arsenal morning digest for Friday, October 30.

Gunners player ratings vs Dundalk

Arsenal made it two wins from two games to start their Europa League campaign last night with a comfortable 3-0 win over Irish side Dundalk.

Goals from Eddie Nketiah, Joe Willock and Nicolas Pepe were enough for the Gunners, with Mikel Arteta resting a host of first-team players.

Unsurprisingly, the three scorers all picked up a solid 7/10 for their efforts, but one man that started for the home side stood above the rest.

Pressure on more than Lacazette and Aubameyang

Arteta made the 'right calls'

Former Arsenal centre-back Martin Keown believes Arteta made the correct decisions with his team selection on Thursday evening.

There were 10 changes made by the Spaniard, as they welcomed Dundalk to the Emirates Stadium, and his so-called "fringe" players did not let him down on the night.

Keown told BT Sport: "I think they were the right calls. If you look at the top players, the internationals, they've already played 14 o 15 games this season. The problem with the guys who don't play is they're not quite fit enough, so they need minutes on the pitch, but that would've been a good night for him.

"The youngsters coming through, they're just young kids - Nketiah, Willock, Nelson as well, good performances from all of them."

Pepe sent Ozil warning

After scoring a fantastic goal for Arsenal in their victory over Dundalk, Keown has warned Pepe about the Mesut Ozil situation.

Ozil has been left out of both of Arteta's squads this season, and the former Germany international is set to leave the Emirates in the near future.

Keown said: “These are the moments from Pepe that we were expecting when he first arrived. We haven’t seen enough from this player, and it is, how can you get the best?

"We’ve all talked about Ozil not being around and the manager saying he failed the player. What about Pepe now? We’re moving onto the next generation. How do you get the best from him, and is he getting the best from himself?"
