Mikel Arteta's £30m masterstroke was criticised, but Arsenal now have England's next big star

Arsenal came out 2-0 winners in an impressive away victory against Leicester City at the King Power stadium and fans arguably witnessed one of the greatest individual performances.

Aaron Ramsdale was marvellous between the sticks and played a key role in keeping a clean sheet. He made some amazing saves with one of these being a spectacular stop from a James Maddison free-kick which seemed destined for the top corner.

After such a magnificent performance, fans have been calling for the 23-year-old to take Jordan Pickford’s spot as England’s starting goalkeeper.

Judging from this season, it should be a no-brainer for Gareth Southgate to put Ramsdale in the starting line-up as he has been head and shoulders above every other English goalkeeper this season.

It wasn’t just his heroics in the match against Leicester that has increased his reputation, but he has been wonderful since signing for the club.

Fans were sceptical about the £30 million price tag for him after playing his part in back-to-back relegations from the Premier League, but now fans are starting to eat their words.

Ramsdale hasn’t put a foot wrong since making his Arsenal debut and is a major reason why the club is starting to see a transformation at the moment.

At the start of the season, the Gunners had lost their opening three Premier League games and had conceded nine goals in the process, with Bernd Leno starting all three. Bernd Leno has been usurped by Aaron Ramsdale in the fight to be Arsenal's number one goalkeeper.

Ramsdale came in after the September international break and since then the Gunners have gone seven games unbeaten in the Premier League and have kept four clean sheets in the process.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper has had a major part to play in Arsenal’s change of form and it is not just his shot-stopping that is a factor in that, as the defence has also looked much more solid overall.

Ramsdale brings about leadership and passion to the backline that the Gunners haven’t seen since Jens Lehmann and it is contagious around the team, which is a huge benefit, with reasons such as these being why Southgate must have Ramsdale as his starting goalkeeper.

Not to mention that England’s current starting goalkeeper, Pickford, is very inconsistent and his actions leave you on the edge of your seat not knowing when his next mistake could happen.

This is the complete opposite with Aaron Ramsdale, who is anything but error-prone, as he is confident with his distribution and a magnificent shot-stopper to match.

England could have a world-class goalkeeper on their hands, which is something they have been lacking in the 21st century.

Southgate must make the obvious decision and put Arsenal’s new signing as the starting goalkeeper for the Three Lions.
