Mikel Arteta issues worrying update on Gabriel Martinelli and Alex Zinchenko injuries

Arsenal will be without Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Martinelli for the final two games of the Premier League season. Mikel Arteta confirmed the news during his pre-match press conference for this weekend's game with Nottingham Forest.

Both players will miss the game with Nottingham Forest and the following weekend's final match of the campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Mikel Arteta claimed that Martinelli's injury was a "nasty" one with the Brazilian set to be out for "weeks".

Arteta said: “They are both out for the rest of the season. Gabi [Martinelli] is a pretty nasty injury, we need to assess in the next week how long he will be out for and with Alex [Zinchenko] it’s a calf issue.”

This means the likelihood is that Kieran Tierney will continue in the left-back role. Arsenal struggled without the Ukrainian international as Brighton controlled possession and ran out 3-0 winners at the Emirates to all but end Arsenal's title hopes.

Meanwhile with Martinelli out Arteta could choose to start Leandro Trossard again although the Belgian did not seem as sharp as he has at some points this season. Alternatively, the Spaniard could choose to use Reiss Nelson instead and with his contract still being negotiated it could be the show of faith needed to convince him to stay.

football.london will bring all the build-up, match coverage and reaction to tomorrow's clash with Nottingham Forest tomorrow afternoon. A reminder that Arsenal must win to keep any glimmering hope of the title alive before Man City play Chelsea on Sunday.
