Mikel Arteta reveals the biggest problem Arsenal had under Unai Emery

Arsenal had a number of problems at the beginning of the season under Unai Emery.

The club acted quickly in sacking the Spaniard in November and while they took their time in finding his appointment, there is a feeling that Mikel Arteta is the right man for the job.

Arteta was the club captain at the Emirates Stadium when he was a player and while he has not exactly overseen an upturn in results, there is a general positivity around the north London club now, that was missing under Emery.

The Gunners take on Newcastle United on Sunday lunchtime - their first game since the winter break.

Arsenal already planning summer transfers

And speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the game, Arteta revealed the one big problem the Arsenal players had under Emery.

Arsenal have certainly been more solid at the back under Arteta, although goals have been harder to come by, and it is the defensive attitude of the players that has improved.

He said: "I have tried to convince the players that if we work on certain things in training, they will happen in games and we will score goals from them. There have been some really good moments like that with things I have asked them to do.

"As well, some of the counter-pressing we have done has been very good. Some of the behaviours of the players weren't there before, particularly the top players tracking back.

"The distances between us and how compact we are is much better, and so is our body language during games."
