Mikel Arteta responds to Wojciech Szczesny Arsenal transfer return speculation

Mikel Arteta accepts that it is important to have players who understand the Arsenal DNA but has not discussed a potential move for Wojciech Szczesny.

The Juventus goalkeeper, who came through the ranks in north London, has been touted with an Emirates return.

Szczesny is currently the Italian side's No 1 and Arteta could be on the look out for a new goalkeeper amid reports he will listen to offers for Bernd Leno.

Former Gunner Jack Wilshere recently claimed that the club were lacking "proper Arsenal people".

Arteta has rebuffed those suggestions but refused to address the Szczesny speculation.

He said: "I think it’s very important to have people that they’ve been here, that they have the experience, that they are well respected here.

"We have a lot of them as well around the training ground, at the stadium. So I don’t know if Jack refers more to the type of people or players, or just people that are recognised with the DNA of the club."

He went on to say: "Honestly I cannot talk about an individual" when pressed on the Polish goalkeeper.

Arsene Wenger previously opted against re-signing players who had left Arsenal.

Arteta did not rule it out but claimed "it’s not in the plans at the moment."

Arsenal have also allowed plenty of players to leave on loan and Arteta must decide whether they have futures at the Emirates or not.

He added: "There is so many things to do because we already have a lot of players on loan, a lot of players with contracts that still we have to sort.

"It will depend a lot on what happens with those players and what we are able to recruit to improve the team is going to determine where we are.

"We [Arteta and Edu] have been sitting down the whole year, we’ve been in constant communication and things could change."
