Mikel Arteta responds to Arsenal fans' Mesut Ozil demand after training performances

Arsenal fans were calling for a recall for Mesut Ozil after training footage emerged ahead of their clash with West Ham on Saturday.

Ozil has been reintegrated into the Gunners' first-team in recent weeks after falling firmly out of favour in the latter stages of last season.

But he has still yet to be handed a recall to Mikel Arteta's side with some fans keen for that to change.

Many voiced their desire to see Ozil back int he side when he played a stunning one-two with Bukayo Saka before setting free Ainsley Maitland-Niles with a stunning ball in training.

But Arteta remained tight-lipped on whether they would get their wish when he was asked about Ozil's training performances after they caused a stir on social media.

Arteta said: "I think they have all been training really, really well.

"The spirit at the training ground is great and we are happy because everyone is pushing each other, so let's try to maintain that."

Arteta has insisted he plans to see out his £350,000-a-week contract at the Emirates, which expires next summer.

And despite not handing him a first-team role, Arteta insisted he is not under pressure to offload those not in his immediate plans.

Speaking at his press conference on Friday, he added: "No. Again, with all the players that we have here, we're going to try to get the best out of them.

"We're going to try to improve them as much as we possibly can and create the right environment for them so that they are happy at the club, because

"I believe it's the most important thing for them to perform to the level that we want. After that, obviously in the market there are things that we cannot control.

"There are things that we can control and let's try to manage in the best possible way."
