Mikel Arteta refuses to make Manchester United vs Arsenal top four prediction

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has played down the Champions League battle with Manchester United admitting his side can only control their "performances".

United's return to fourth spot in the Premier League was shortlived after Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick against Tottenham. A Thomas Partey header and Alexandre Lacazette's penalty was enough for Arsenal to beat Leicester 2-0 on Sunday, sending the Gunners back into the top four.

A point separates Arsenal and United now, with Arteta's side having three games in hand over Ralf Rangnick's men. They'll be looking to extend their lead to four points against Liverpool on Wednesday but Arteta has remained coy on the pursuit of Champions League qualification.

"That's the reality in football because if you start to make prediction on what can happen I think no one in this room will get it right.," he said, speaking to Sky Sports. "The only thing we can control is performances and the next game and that's what we're focused on.

"[We're in a] Very good position but there is still a lot to fight for. Now [the attention] is Liverpool, we know how tough it is going to be and we have to prepare to win it."
