Mikel Arteta refuses to confirm if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will keep Arsenal captaincy after breach

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has refused to confirm if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will remain as the club captain after he was dropped for the visit of Southampton due to a disciplinary breach.

Aubameyang, who has had run-ins with Arteta before, was completely left out of the squad for Saturday’s 3-0 win over Southampton.

Before the game, Arteta refused to clarify how long the issue could rumble on, saying: “It starts today.”

After the match, he was then asked if Aubameyang will remain club captain and he refused to confirm so. “Let’s talk about the game, guys,” said Arteta.

“I tried to explain you what it was and I did it frankly, and I am not going to say anything else. I am going to focus on the performance and what the team has done on the pitch.

“It was a disciplinary breach and that’s why he was out of the squad.

“I am really happy that we won 3-0 and we move onto the next one against West Ham guys. I am telling you, you are not going to get anything else from me.”
