Mikel Arteta says he's expecting to receive an update on the progress of Arsenal's move for Martin Odegaard on Saturday.
The Gunners were knocked out of the FA Cup by Southampton at St Mary's and are currently in advanced talks with Real Madrid over bringing the Norwegian youngster to the club on a six-month loan deal.
Odegaard, 22, wasn't included in the Real Madrid squad to face Alaves and is expected to put the finishing touches to a move to north London in the coming days.
"I don’t know," replied Arteta when asked if he had any update on the progress of the deal.
"Obviously we played today. Since last night I don’t have any news.
"Probably I will get a few phone calls today and see where we are with every deal."
Asked whether the arrival of Odegaard will stifle the development of the impressive Emile Smith Rowe, a reluctant Arteta insisted that he has a clear idea of how he wants to develop his young players.
"I cannot talk about any player who is not ours. We have a clear idea of how we want to develop our players."
Arsenal are also in the market for a left-back and have been linked with Southampton's Ryan Bertrand who started against the Gunners in the FA Cup clash.
