Mikel Arteta provides update on Alexandre Lacazette's Arsenal future amid Atletico Madrid links

Mikel Arteta believes Alexandre Lacazette will stay at Arsenal this summer.

The French forward has been linked with a move to one of Atletico Madrid or Juventus with competition heating up in the front line at the Emirates Stadium.

But according to Gunners boss Arteta, Lacazette is happy at the club, and it seems a move is unlikely, at least this summer.

“He’s really happy here," said Arteta in Friday's press conference.

What is next for Arsenal in the transfer window?

"He wants to keep contributing to the team. He knows about the competition with the strikers here.

"The way he’s been training has been excellent. I think he’s very happy here.”

Lacazette is under contract for another two years at Arsenal, meaning the club could have a difficult decision to make next summer should they decide not to offer a new contract in the meantime.

The 29-year-old played a big part in the Gunners' efforts last season, making 39 appearances across all competitions, scoring 12 and assisting seven.

Reports on Thursday suggested Lacazette 'wanted' to join Atletico Madrid, but Arteta's comments suggest otherwise and it seems he could well stay put.
