Mikel Arteta provides Bukayo Saka injury update after he limps off for Arsenal

Mikel Arteta provided a hopeful update on Bukayo Saka after the Arsenal star hobbled off in the 1-0 victory at Brighton.

Saka, 19, showed once again why he is the Gunners' prized asset with another exemplary performance at the Amex.

The Englishman grabbed the assist for Alexandre Lacazette's winner, continuing his fine form after he picked up a goal and assist against Chelsea on Boxing Day.

But Saka was forced off in the 81st minute after a few minutes of moving gingerly, with Dani Ceballos thrown on to see out the victory.

Arteta awaits an update on Saka's fitness but is optimistic the youngster will not be out for long.

Quizzed on whether Saka is injured after the match, Arteta said: "Hopefully not. He was limping as he took a strong challenge. Hopefully he'll be alright."

Saka has been used in a variety of roles this season and Lacazette is benefitting from his teammate's recent inclusion in attacking midfield rather than at wing-back.

"Every game he improves," said Lacazette. "Even though he's young, he shows his quality.

"Everyone is happy with him."

Meanwhile, Arteta was delighted with Lacazette after the Frenchman scored the winning goal just 21 seconds after coming off the bench.

"I'm proud for the boys and happy for the result," said the Gunners boss. "Lacazette is in a good moment. He's full of confidence. We wanted to change the team in the second half and give it some freshness.

Arsenal struggled in the first half but had renewed intent after the interval, and Arteta added: "We weren't threatening in certain areas.

"In the second half we looked much more confident and we were playing more forward. The best medicine is wins. It's a different world and a different story. The picture looks much better."
