Mikel Arteta predicts 'turning point' for Alexandre Lacazette as Arsenal striker helps seal win at Wolves

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta believes Alexandre Lacazette’s goal against Wolves could be a turning point for the Frenchman.

The striker has had a difficult season, while more recently he has struggled for form since the Premier League’s restart.

Until Saturday, Lacazette had not scored since March but he rectified that by bagging the second goal in a 2-0 win for Arsenal at Molineux.

“He really needed that. When I asked him to come on, within three seconds he was ready to jump on the pitch,” he said.

“And when you do that, things like this happen. He had a great movement of the ball, a great touch and a great finish.

“We have to give him more opportunities to be able to do that, but I am so happy for him because he deserves that the way he trains and plays ever day.”

Lacazette sealed a victory for Arsenal which began when Bukayo Saka struck minutes before the end of the first-half.

The victory means Arsenal move up to seventh in the Premier League, but Arteta says they still have no margin for error if they want to qualify for the Champions League.

“I am in the race to try to win against Leicester and let’s see what happens,” he said.

“But weeks ago it looked impossible [to qualify for the Champions League]. We know the fixtures that we have in the next few weeks.

“We try to improve as a team every time to give us a better chance. The better we play, the better we compete.

“At this level of intensity if we play like this against any team we will make it hard for them - and then we will see.

“Every game we have no margin for error, we know that.

“We are trying to win every game if we can. Let’s enjoy tonight a little bit. Tomorrow we start thinking about Leicester and try to go again.

“It is probably one of the best [wins of my reign] because of the difficult schedule we had compared to them (Wolves) in terms of the recovery - and for how well they have been doing for the whole season and as well since Covid-19.”
