Mikel Arteta posts coronavirus message following Premier League shutdown

Former Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta has posted a message to supporters after testing positive for coronavirus.

It was confirmed on Thursday evening that the Arsenal head coach was self-isolating and that the Gunners' training ground had been closed, ahead of news on Friday that an unnamed Everton first-team player was showing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 .

Finch Farm, Goodison Park and the Blues' facilities at the Royal Liver Building have closed until further notice - with players and staff told to stay away for the time-being.

A joint message from the Premier League, the FA, the EFL and the WSL later revealed that football in the UK would be postponed until at least April 3.

And the Arsenal boss took to social media on Friday afternoon to share an updated message claiming he is already on the mend and praising the Premier League for coming to the right decision.

Arteta tweeted: "Thanks for your words and support. Feeling better already.

"We’re all facing a huge & unprecedented challenge. Everyone’s health is all that matters right now. Protect each other by following the guidelines & we’ll come through this together.

"Well done PL for making the right decisions."
