Mikel Arteta picks out two players for special praise after "resilient" Southampton win

Mikel Arteta reserved special praise for Nicolas Pepe and Bukayo Saka after Arsenal came from behind to win 3-1 at Southampton.

Stuart Armstrong's fine strike opened the scoring in the third minute, but Nicolas Pepe silenced his doubters by levelling just five minutes later.

Bukayo Saka continued his excellent season by putting the Gunners ahead late in the first half, while the teenager turned provider to assist Alexandre Lacazette for the visitors' third.

The result means Arsenal have won five of their last six Premier League games and lifts them to eighth in the table, with a rotten opening to the season firmly behind them.

Arteta praised Pepe for capitalising on a rare Premier League start, telling BT Sport : "He was really good again. He created big moments. He deserved his chance today and he took it."

And assessing the in-form Saka's display, he added: "He has been very consistent. He has played in different positions and adapted. He is assisting players. It was another strong performance today."

The Gunners boss was pleased by the way his side came from behind to win at St Mary's but insisted they must stay "humble".

"It is tough to win here," said the Spaniard. "They are strong and have been in form. It showed a lot of intelligent and resilience from the team in the way they managed the game.

"We have still a lot to do. We have to improve, be humble and train good for the next game."

Arteta added: "I think we were good from the start. We conceded a goal from a corner but responded straight away.

"We were good on the ball. We got out of trouble and made some big chances. Our pressing was brilliant. We were good in the break. It was a strong performance."
