Mikel Arteta has hinted that Arsenal will be active in the January transfer window for 'one or two' players, although his priority is getting his current crop of players back to their best.
The Spaniard takes charge of his first game at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon in the London derby against Chelsea, having drawn 1-1 with Bournemouth last weekend.
Victory against the Blues could reignite Arsenal's push for a top-four finish, while defeat would leave the Gunners 11 points adrift of the Champions League places and in the bottom half for the New Year.
Either way, the general consensus is that Arsenal need to invest in January and Arteta has admitted he is open to the possibility of securing new additions.
"We need players back from injuries, first of all, to be more solid, more compact.
"And then we might need to do one or two things if the right players become available, to help us," he told Sky Sports.
"But at the moment I am more concerned with getting the maximum out of the players available to us."
Arteta may also be forced into action to replace outgoing players, with Granit Xhaka's agent confirming this week that the Switzerland international is keen to join Hertha Berlin.
"Look, I will say it frankly and honestly, we are in agreement with Hertha BSC and would like to go to Berlin," Jose Noguera told Blick.
"We have told Arsenal’s club boss Raul Sanllehi and sporting director Edu Gaspar, as well as the new coach Mikel Arteta.
"Arsenal was informed about all the steps, the player and Hertha are clear.
"‘It’s only about the transfer fee of the clubs."
The report adds that the Bundesliga side have lodged a fee of around £21.3m for Xhaka's services, which would hand Arsenal a loss of £8.7m on the fee they paid back in 2016.
