Mikel Arteta on verge of Arsenal managerial appointment, confirms Pep Guardiola

Mikel Arteta is on the verge of being confirmed Arsenal manager, Pep Guardiola has confirmed.

Manchester City’s assistant is currently in London finalising his deal to succeed Unai Emery at the Emirates.

It’s believed the final details of the compensation Arsenal will have to pay City – in the region of £2m – are still to be concluded.

Arteta said goodbye to the players and staff at the Etihad on Thursday, before heading to the capital.

Guardiola said: “Yesterday he didn’t do training. Today he didn’t do training. I don’t know the last details of the contract, but he is there.

“He’s in London, he’s close to finishing a deal with Arsenal. It’s almost done.

“He decided to move there. You cannot stop it, follow your dreams and Arsenal was a big part of his career.

“We wish him all the best I’m pretty sure he will do a great job.”

Despite losing his No2, Guardiola insists there will be no additions to his backroom staff until the end of the season.
