New Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has opened the door to midfielder Mesut Ozil over restarting his Arsenal career under the new management.
Ozil missed out on a place in the matchday squad for the Everton through injury, but following the game, caretaker manager Freddie Ljungberg said that even if he wasn't fit, the German midfielder wouldn't have been included in the 18.
Ozil showed his frustration when he was substituted during the defeat to Manchester City by kicking his gloves before taking his place on the bench.
"For me, I got asked after the game about Mesut. He walked off, took his things (gloves) and kicked them and the fans were not happy and I was asked about it," Ljungberg said.
"I said 'For me, at Arsenal, that's not how we behave, that’s not what we do' and I stand by that.
"Mesut was injured but I would not have picked him for the squad because I want to make a stance that, that's not what I accept from an Arsenal football player.
"That's my decision and that’s what I think."
However, speaking in his pre-match press conference, Arteta has said that players, including Ozil, will not be judged on past incidents.
"It’s a question for Freddie. I just wanted him to pick the best possible lineup for the game," he said about the Ozil situation.
"You’re not going to be judged on what you done in the past, positive or negative.
"We will try to put the most competitive team out, we are to be ready and nullify them as much as possible."
