Mikel Arteta must make use of key advantage to ensure North London derby win over Spurs

The Gunners take on Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby today and, with significant importance hanging over the fixture, The Arsenal Way team discussed what Mikel Arteta's side must do in order to come out on top.

Both teams have had very different starts to the 2021/22 Premier League campaign, which makes the clash even more intriguing.

A win in the North London derby is a fantastic opportunity for Arsenal to make a big statement after a poor start to the season and will undoubtedly raise spirits.

Find out what our team had to say about the highly anticipated clash below.

If you were to ask me how I felt about this fixture a few weeks ago, I would have been dreading it, but my mood is very different now. Football is a funny old game, isn't it?

Despite my boost in confidence, it doesn't change the fact that Arsenal are going to have to be at their best from the off.

A high tempo will have to be set early and it will need to continue for as long as possible. We have seen Arsenal start many games strongly but then drop off and allow pressure from the opposition. That cannot happen for long periods of the match.

Gabriel and Tomiyasu's additions to the squad over recent fixtures have been welcome developments. They can play a key role in keeping the Spurs attack quiet, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in particular.

If our backline can limit their chances, then I feel we have a very good chance of getting something from the game.

It isn't just members of the defence that can play a key role, however, as every single player must be up to the task and hungry to claim the bragging rights.

Thomas Partey will most likely start and he can be a real gamechanger when at his best. His energy, quality on the ball, and exquisite passing range can cause major issues in the middle of the park and allow those in front of him to flourish.

Going forward, the attack must be lethal and sharp. A major problem for the Gunners has been the lack of end product in front of goal, but it's big games like today where there is no room for mistakes. They will need to be more clinical and direct if they want to give themselves a comfortable lead.

Arsenal have come out of the international break in excellent form, winning every game since returning and keeping two clean sheets in the process.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have not picked up a point since August and, because of this, I think it is imperative that we start off on the front foot and go all-out attack.

Spurs are going to be lacking confidence due to the previous result, which means they will be in a rigid system, especially in the first 30 minutes of the match.

The fact that the game is being played in front of a full crowd at the Emirates Stadium means the players should not need any firing up as the atmosphere will be buzzing.

This will further push the players on to come rushing out of the starting blocks and if this does happen then I believe we can kill the game early and see It out.

Concentration will be critical if Ben White and Gabriel are to stop Tottenham’s biggest threat in Harry Kane, who boasts an impressive 10 goals in 13 appearances in this fixture.

Takehiro Tomiyasu will also face his biggest test so far in his Arsenal career when having to deal with Son Heung-min, who scored a magnificent goal against the Gunners last season.

If the defenders are able to win these two battles then anything other than an Arsenal victory would be a ludicrous prediction.

I am much more confident for this match than I was before the international break and I think it would take a lot for Arsenal to lose the first North London with fans at the stadium for over two years.

The club has excellent momentum right now and I believe they will build upon this on Sunday.
