Mikel Arteta may have found his dream partnership after William Saliba display v Kylian Mbappe

Some Arsenal supporters have heaped praise on William Saliba following his latest performance for Marseille against Paris Saint-Germain.

The 20-year-old defender, who is on a season-long loan at Les Phoceens from Arsenal, had the tricky task of trying to keep out PSG's attacking quartet of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Lionel Messi and Angel di Maria, but managed to do so.

Saliba made his ninth appearance for Marseille in Ligue 1 this season and once again impressed, but this was arguably his best performance to date for the French club.

In the 90 minutes he played, the Gunners loanee made one clearance, intercepted the ball once, made three tackles, won 80 per cent of his five ground duels, won his one aerial duel and kept a clean sheet.

Arsenal fans, when taking to social media following the performance, all said similar things about the talented loanee, with some even highlighting the dream partnership of Saliba, Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes that Mikel Arteta could have at his disposal next season.

Here's the best of the reaction from social media.

Saliba was recently quizzed on why he chose to join Marseille on loan and then referenced the passion running through the city when it comes to football as one of the reasons.

Speaking to Telefoot, as quoted by Get French Football News, Saliba said: "Longoria (Pablo, Marseille president) told me that if I wanted to reach the next level in my progression, then I had to come here. If you can perform at Marseille, to play under the pressure, you can play anywhere else.

"I hadn't even signed yet and I was already getting messages from supporters. I have never seen passion like this, in this town, the only thing that matters is OM."

Saliba's Marseille team-mate Dimitri Payet recently questioned Arsenal's judgement when it comes to the highly-rated defender, saying he does not understand why he is yet to play a competitive match for the north London club.

Speaking in an interview with L'Equipe earlier in the month, via Metro, the former West Ham United star said: "The new ones have all brought something different. After that, I am closer to younger players.

"So, the one that impresses me the most is Willie (Saliba). Considering what he has been doing since the start of the season, I do not understand why he has not played more for Arsenal."

Arsenal supporters clearly want Saliba back at the Emirates Stadium next season despite White and Gabriel impressing at the centre of Arteta's defence in recent matches.
