Mikel Arteta makes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang prediction after goal drought ends vs Man United

Mikel Arteta hopes that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's confidence will be lifted after his penalty sealed victory for Arsenal against Manchester United.

Aubameyang netted the only goal of the game at Old Trafford as he stepped up to fire home from the penalty spot after Paul Pogba was penalised for a foul on Hector Bellerin in the second half of the contest.

It was Aubameyang's first goal in the Premier League for six games, with the Arsenal captain not scoring in the top flight since the 3-0 win at Fulham on the opening day of the new season.

He has scored in the Europa League as Arsenal came from behind to beat Rapid Vienna last month in the group stage of the competition, but he has struggled for goals in the Premier League.

However, that run of five games in the top flight without a goal is now over, with Arteta full of praise for the calmness shown by Aubameyang when stepping up to the spot.

"I’m glad it’s finished. Every striker needs goals and in these moments we have to create more for Auba," said Arteta.

"He has scored the crucial goal and it is going to lift his confidence.

"Added pressure because he knew how crucial it was for us to win today. He took it really well and I'm really happy for him."
