Mikel Arteta makes Jakub Kiwior transfer claim amid deadline for Man Utd game

After 19 days of no acquisitions at Arsenal, Mikel Arteta could be set to welcome two new players in the space of 24 hours. On Friday, the Gunners confirmed the arrival of Leandro Trossard on a permanent transfer from Brighton and on the same day the club entered talks for Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior, football.london understands.

Chelsea and Tottenham had both held an interest in Trossard but football.london reported on Thursday that Arsenal opened talks to sign him and by the end of the day a deal had been finalised for the 28-year-old. He then completed his medical on Friday morning before being announced as an Arsenal player that afternoon.

Despite official confirmation of his arrival in north London coming three-and-a-half hours after the 12pm registration deadline, Arteta confirmed that he thinks he will have Trossard available for selection on Sunday for the Premier League clash against Manchester United.

Trossard's signing was not the only significant development of the day with reports emerging a deal for Jakub Kiwior had been agreed. football.london understands talks are ongoing over a deal.

The Spezia man looks set to cost over £21million and will sign a contract with the club until June 2028. After being part of the Anderlecht youth setup, Kiwior joined Spezia in the summer of 2021 where he has gone on to make 43 appearances mostly on the left of a back three, but the left-footed Polish international can fill as a defensive midfielder and therefore can provide adequate cover to Gabriel Magalhaes and perhaps more importantly given some of his injury issues, an alternative to Thomas Partey.

Although the deal is close to completion, Arteta refused to comment on Kiwior as no transfer has been officially announced yet with the defender still needing to pass his medical. When asked about Kiwior in his pre-Manchester United press conference, he said: "We cannot talk about players that we haven’t finalised. When that’s the case we can announce it."

Kiwior will have to wait to make his Gunners debut, with the 12pm deadline on Friday for the registration of new players now passed, but he could potentially be unveiled to Arsenal supporters.
