Arteta's Arsenal vision
Mikel Arteta says Arsenal are 'very far' from being the team he wants them to be.
Asked how close the Gunners are to being the finished product in his eyes, he said: "Very far. Very, very far.
"There’s still a lot to improve, a lot of quality to add, much more efficient in decision making, much quicker to open up situations when the advantages are there, many more situations to finish when advantages are obtained, more control of games, more defensive actions in the opponents half, less giveaways in our own half, it’s a lot to do, more goals, more creativity, it’s a lot to do."
Asked if he and his side are on the right track, he added: "Yes, I think I am. When you look at the previous game you played against a team a few months ago and you look where the team is now I think it’s always a good way of seeing the progression and I've seen that."
Smith Rowe injury update
Arsenal have provided the latest on Emile Smith Rowe's injury ahead of Saturday's clash with Burnley.
Heading into the clash with Burnley, it remains unclear whether Smith Rowe will be fit to play, but there is some positive news with scans showing 'no significant injury'.
"Emile was substituted just before half time at Leicester City last Sunday with discomfort in his hip," a club update read.
"Assessments and scans this week have shown that it is not a significant injury.
"Emile will be assessed and checked regarding his availability ahead of Saturday’s match."
The cost of sacking Unai Emery
Arsenal have revealed how much it cost the club to fire Unai Emery and hire Mikel Arteta last season.
They revealed in their report for the financial year from 2019 to 2020 that the deal ultimately ended up costing them £10.4 million overall.
This contributed to the club having made an overall loss of £47.8 million from the period June 1st 2019 to May 21st 2020.
Those losses were not just impacted by the decision to change manger and coaching staff though as the financial repercussions of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic were laid bare.
The club accounts estimate that they also lost £14 million in matchday revenues, £34 million due to the deferral of broadcasting revenues, as well as a further £6m in other broadcasting and commercial areas.
This was however, offset by the 12.5% player wage cut taken by players near the start of the pandemic in April 2020, which is said to have saved the Gunners £19 million.
