Mikel Arteta keeps a close eye on 'the new Zlatan' as Pep Guardiola sends message to Arsenal

Here is your Arsenal morning digest for Wednesday, December 16.

Guardiola urges Gunners to stick by Arteta

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is urging the Gunners to stick by under pressure manager Mikel Arteta, despite the club's current struggles.

On Sunday evening, the Gunners fell to their sixth defeat in their last eight Premier League outings, going down 1-0 at home to Burnley.

Despite the current troubles that the club faces, Guardiola is urging the club's hierarchy to stick by his former apprentice.

Guardiola said: "Sometimes when a club comes from a period that is not so good, sometimes it needs time. I would say to the board at Arsenal, I do not have any doubts about his quality and capacity to put Arsenal in the place that they deserve to be.

"Arsenal couldn’t have a better manager to lead this club in this year and the next – nobody is better than him.

"He’s one of the best managers I’ve ever worked with and seen directly.

"For his personality and his commitment and his love for his club, because if it were not for the love of his club he would still be here."

Gunners fixtures selected for TV coverage

Four of Arsenal's Premier League fixtures in January are to be broadcast on TV, the Premier League confirmed yesterday.

The Gunners' trip to the Hawthorns to face lowly West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, January 2, will be shown live on Sky Sports, kicking-off at 8:00pm.

The London derby with Crystal Palace will also be broadcast live on Sky Sports, with the contest getting under way at 8:00pm on Thursday, January 14.

Arteta's side's clash with Newcastle United less than a week later will also be broadcast live on Sky Sports, with that one being staged on Monday, January 18, once again with an 8:00pm kick-off.

The following week, Arsenal will appear on TV twice more, first for the trip to Southampton on Tuesday, January 26, with that one being shown on BT Sport, kick-off 8:15pm. Finally, the Gunners' home tussle with Manchester United on Saturday, January 30 will be shown on Sky Sports, with the kick-off time pencilled in for 5:30pm.

Arteta assesses his options

Ahead of this evening's game with Southampton, Arsenal's players were working hard at their London Colney training base on Tuesday afternoon, as they aim to get back on the winning trail.

Whilst big-name stars such as Bernd Leno, David Luiz, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all featured, teenage starlet Nikolaj Moller was also involved.

The 18-year-old Swede joined the Gunners from Malmo back in October and has been making waves in the club's youth squads since his arrival, suggesting that Arteta is keen to get a stronger look at him by including him in first-team training.

Though it is unlikely that he will be in the squad to face Southampton this evening, he will no doubt gain bags of experience by being with the first-team squad, as well as allowing Arteta to catch a glimpse of him.
