Mikel Arteta: It is right that every defeat feels like a crisis at a big club like Arsenal

Mikel Arteta believes it is right that every defeat for Arsenal feels like a crisis as such a feeling is necessary at a big club.

The Gunners have turned things around after a miserable start to the season that saw them lose their opening three Premier League games.

Arsenal have since then won three matches on the spin, including the north London derby last weekend when they beat Tottenham 3-1, and they are now in the top of half the table.

It has seen the spotlight and pressure ease on Arsenal but Arteta does not believing the feeling of being near a crisis is necessarily a bad emotion.

“I think that feeling is very necessary at a big club, because every defeat is a crisis and it should be a crisis,” said Arteta.

“You have to deal with that pressure and, if you want to be the best, you should be able to cope with that.

“You have to realise that excellence is the only way and the only thing that is expected. Anything else is not good enough.

“That is the history. We have the great history we have because we have that competitive edge, that mentality and that willingness to all the time look further and have that ambition.

“In order to achieve that, you need to be able to deal with that.”
