Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has issued an encouraging update on forward Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang.
The Gabon international missed Saturday's 2-1 Premier League defeat at Everton due to a calf injury.
But speaking on Monday morning ahead of the Gunners' Carabao Cup quarter-final against Manchester City, Arteta was more hopeful about having the attacker back sooner rather than later.
"Auba is feeling much better," said the boss. "He was more positive yesterday (Sunday) than the previous two days.
"He will have another scan the next few days and we will see how quickly we can get him back in the team.
"He knows how important he is for us and he feels the responsibility and he's trying his best to be fit as quickly as possible."
Midfielder Thomas Partey is again likely to be missing from the squad due to injury while Granit Xhaka is still suspended.
Gabriel Magalhaes is back in contention, however, having served his one game ban at Goodison Park over the weekend.
Arteta revealed several member of his squad are nursing knocks and he is expected to name a weakened side for the game with the Citizens.
"For the rest I don't think we'll have any news today (Monday) before training," he added. "Let's see how the boys are. Auba is not fit for tomorrow (Tuesday), that's for sure.
"We will see who's available because we have a few doubts in other positions."
