Mikel Arteta issues fitness update on three key Arsenal names with new signings set to face Manchester United

Mikel Arteta has confirmed that three key names will likely be fit to face Manchester United in Arsenal’s Premier League opener.

The three players in question include two of the Gunners’ summer signings, and an experienced head.

The trio are Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, and Leandro Trossard, with the Belgian the biggest injury concern ahead of the curtain-raiser this weekend.

Arteta said that he expected Trossard, who has been suffering from a groin injury, to train tomorrow, and if that was the case, then the forward would be fit enough to travel with the squad to Old Trafford on Sunday.

“He's much better,” Arteta said of the former Brighton winger.

“I think he will be able to train again tomorrow and if that's the case, he will be fit.

Trossard’s future at the club is uncertain as Arsenal look to sanction departures in the closing weeks of the transfer window.

The 30-year-old has proved a reliable source of goals since arriving from Brighton in January 2023, but with Noni Madueke brought in from Chelsea for £52million earlier this summer and Hale End graduate Ethan Nwaneri signing a new long-term contract, Trossard’s future is in doubt.

Arteta also revealed that striker Viktor Gyokeres, a £64m arrival from Sporting CP, would be ready against United after a disrupted pre-season.

"He [Gyokeres] is getting better and better everyday,” Arteta said of his new No14.

“He is normally a really fit player and he has had the small moments in two games [in pre-season] with us so let's see what he brings on Sunday."

Arsenal are aiming to win their first Premier League title in 21 years, having come up short in the last few seasons.

Arteta says his team are ready to compete on four fronts this season, having bolstered his squad with six new signings.

Another of those fresh faces, Zubimendi, could also feature in Manchester on Sunday.

"Martin has had a great integration into the team and we are really happy with him. He will be fit for Sunday," Arteta confirmed.
