Mikel Arteta involves Philippe Coutinho in new Arsenal plan amid transfer chase

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has big plans this summer transfer window.

According to The Times, the Spaniard has his eyes set on moving his side to a 4-3-3 formation ahead of next season.

But strengthening his midfield options is vital to make that happen - and Philippe Coutinho is amongst those earmarked in a key role in his planned new system.

The Gunners played with three central defenders and two wing-backs in the latter stages of the season, including their FA Cup win over Chelsea.

Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos largely formed his first-choice midfield pair but there is no doubt it is an area Arteta is keen to strengthen.

It is claimed he wants Thomas Partey and Coutinho to come into the side, with Partey set to play a box to box role whilst Coutinho adds creativity behind their front-three.

Chelsea star Willian is also on their radar as a free transfer and capable of adding plenty of cover to the wide positions.

Whilst they can land Willian on a free transfer after his Chelsea departure by handing him the three-year deal he wants, finances might be trickier as they chase Partey and Coutinho.

Atletico Madrid are adamant Partey will only be sold if his €50m (£45.5m) release clause is met.

Coutinho, meanwhile, has reportedly been offered to Arsenal for just £9m if Matteo Guendouzi is sent the other way.

But plenty of things have to fall into place and Coutinho would still command high wages as Arsenal operate on a tight budget.

Victory at Wembley on Saturday to reach the Europa League has eased their financial situation entering the summer.

But it remains to be seen whether Arteta is able to fund his masterplan and lead Arsenal to glory with a new 4-3-3 system featuring Coutinho next season.
