Mikel Arteta insists Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will stay at Arsenal amid Man City transfer links

Mikel Arteta says Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will “remain” an Arsenal player, amid speculation Manchester City could make a late move for him.

City had been pursuing a deal for Tottenham striker Harry Kane, but that transfer is now off the cards.

It has led to speculation Pep Guardiola’s side will look elsewhere for a new striker and Aubameyang, along with Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo, has been mentioned as a possible target.

But asked if he was concerned City could come in for Aubameyang before the transfer window shuts next week, Arteta said: “I don’t know. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is our player and he will remain here.”

Arsenal are looking to shift players before the transfer window shuts on August 31 and Arteta confirmed Willian could leave. The forward, who has two years to run on his current contract, is a target for Brazilian club Corinthians.

“We are having some conversations with him and the agent and we are evaluating the position that we are in at the moment,” said Arteta.

“I don’t know [why it has not worked out for Willian at Arsenal]. At the moment he is an Arsenal player and we are trying to get the best out of him when he’s here. Anything different, is just maybe things that can happen.”
