Mikel Arteta 'identifies Arsenal transfer targets' as details of chat with board emerge

Mikel Arteta has reportedly already identified transfer targets for Arsenal - and has discussed this with the board ahead of getting the manager's job.

Freddie Ljungberg has been in temporary charge of the Gunners since Unai Emery was sacked, but results have been poor under the Swede.

Arsenal had hoped that Emery's assistant - a fan favourite - would be able to steady the ship until the end of the season, in the same way Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did last campaign at Manchester United.

This would have given the board time to make a more considered managerial decision in the summer and enable the new boss to get to know his team, implement his philosophy, and make some signings.

But results have been so bad in north London that Arsenal executive Vinai Venkatesham and chief negotiator Huss Fahmy held talks with Arteta on Sunday.

According to The Independent, Arteta spoke to the Gunners board about the staff he wants to bring in, amid claims there will be a complete reshuffle at Arsenal.

Ljungberg's job is at risk as a result, and the Swede could be on his way out at Arsenal alongside other individuals from Emery's coaching team.

Arteta is also said to have spoken about potential transfers to the club, although will have to wait until January before he can start signing new recruits.

Arsenal are floundering down in tenth in the Premier League, seven points off Chelsea who occupy the final Champions League qualifying spot.

The Gunners were thumped 3-0 by Manchester City last time out.
