Mikel Arteta has become the latest manager to urge the Premier League to reconsider allowing five substitutions per match.
Five substitutions per team were permitted after lockdown in the 2019/20 season, but top-flight clubs voted against extending the measure for the 2020/21 campaign.
The rule change aimed to decrease the burden on players during the hectic fixture schedule and was also implemented in the Champions League and Europa League.
UEFA has also chosen to allow five substitutions in European competition this season, while Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have called for the rule to be reintroduced in the Premier League.
Arteta has echoed the calls of the Manchester City and Liverpool managers, insisting there could be "really bad news" for players unless action is taken.
"I would strongly support [five substitutions in the Premier League]," said the Spaniard. "We are here to give the best possible show. We need the players.
"They are the most important part of that. We have to protect them. It goes on and on and on.
"We're going to have some really bad news with players that we are not respecting."

Arteta will be able to make up to five changes as Arsenal host Molde in the Europa League on Thursday, three days before the Gunners' clash with Aston Villa.
Arsenal's injury concerns mainly relate to long-term absentees Gabriel Martinelli, Calum Chambers and Pablo Mari, but Arteta predicts more players will be sidelined in the coming games.
He said: "It's not a coincidence, the percentage rate of muscular injuries. Intensity is not going to go down, the level of demands, the quality.
"Every match will be so competitive. Players will get injured."
The Gunners boss also confirmed he will rotate his personnel for the visit of Norwegian side Molde, adding: “We'll see some changes tomorrow again.
“I believe we have to manage the minutes and exposure we get with the players with the amount of games they have.
“Now now but in the international week they play three games and at the moment they play every three or four days.
"We have to think what we need at the present but it's going to get really, really condensed.”
