Mikel Arteta hints someone other than Arsenal, Man City and Man Utd can win Premier League title

It looks as if the Premier League title race could be between three teams this year, having looked as if it was just a two-horse race. Arsenal and Manchester City have been the standouts, but wobbles from both sides in recent weeks have led to Manchester United moving into contention.

Five points separate the top three, albeit the two Manchester sides have played a game more than the Gunners at the top of the table. If Arsenal win their game in hand against Everton, they could move five clear of City and eight clear of United.

It is set to be an intriguing battle to see who comes out on top, but who will be smiling come the end of the season? Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta does not think it is as easy as being a two-horse race for the title. Or even a three-horse race.

Fourth-placed Tottenham are 12 points adrift of their fierce north London rivals, with no one talking them up as being potential title challengers. Newcastle meanwhile are a further point back in fifth.

Arteta hinted that there could be more than three teams involved in the shake-up come the end of the season though, with a seven-word statement during his press conference ahead of this weekend's game with Leicester City.

The Gunners boss was asked if it was a two-horse race between Arsenal and City for the title. And rather than suggesting there was another team involved - United - Arteta said "other teams".

"I think there are more teams involved," he told reporters at London Colney. It may have just been a slip of the tongue and he meant another team in Manchester United, or he may be wary of the threat posed from further back, with still plenty of points up for grabs between now and the end of the season.
